For students studying abroad, especially in the Gulf region, the Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) scheme is one of the most important pathways to secure admission in top institutes like NITs, IIITs, and other premier technical institutions in India.

For DASA 2026, it is expected that National Institute of Technology Calicut will coordinate the process. While the official brochure is usually released around late April or early May, students can already begin preparation based on past trends and current updates.

This guide explains the complete journey from JEE Main to final seat allotment under DASA 2026.

What is DASA Admission? (An Overview)

Before understanding the admission process, it is important to know what the DASA scheme actually offers. The Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) is a special admission channel designed for NRI, OCI, and foreign students, providing them an opportunity to study in top engineering institutes in India.

The DASA scheme is designed for:

NRIs (Non-Resident Indians)

PIO/OCI candidates

Foreign Nationals

CIWG (Children of Indian Workers in Gulf countries)

Admission is offered in:

NITs

IIITs

SPAs and other centrally funded institutions

Read More about DASA

DASA 2026: Tentative Schedule

Having a clear understanding of the timeline is essential for a smooth admission process. Since DASA follows a structured counselling system, knowing the important dates in advance helps students plan their registration, choice filling, and document preparation without any last-minute confusion.

Understanding the timeline is critical to avoid missing deadlines.

Major Change: JEE Main is Mandatory for DASA 2026

One of the most significant updates in recent years is the shift in admission criteria for DASA. Students must now rely entirely on their JEE Main performance, making it crucial to understand how this change impacts eligibility and seat allocation.

One of the most important updates is that admission is now based on JEE Main rank only.

Key Point: SAT is no longer accepted for DASA admissions

Your performance in JEE Main 2026 will determine your rank and seat allotment

This makes JEE Main preparation crucial for all DASA aspirants.

Eligibility Criteria for DASA 2026

Before applying, every student must ensure that they meet the required academic and subject criteria. Understanding eligibility conditions early helps avoid rejection during the application process and ensures a smooth registration experience.

Academic Requirement

Minimum 75% marks in Class 12 OR 7.5 CGPA

Subjects Required

Physics

Chemistry

Mathematics

Provisional Eligibility

Students appearing in Class 12 in 2026 can also apply.

Read more about Eligibility Criteria

CIWG Category: Important for Gulf Students

For students living in Gulf countries, the CIWG category plays a major role in DASA admissions. This category provides specific benefits, but it also requires proper documentation and verification, making it important to understand its requirements clearly.

Key Requirements

Parent must be working in a Gulf country

Valid employment proof required

Residency documents must be up to date

Important Note: Documents under CIWG are strictly verified, so accuracy is critical.

Step-by-Step DASA 2026 Registration Process

The DASA registration process is straightforward but requires careful attention to detail. A step-by-step understanding of the application process helps students avoid mistakes and complete their registration smoothly within the limited time window.

Step 1: Online Registration

Visit the official portal and register using:

JEE Main Application Number

Date of Birth

Step 2: Fill Application Form

Enter:

Personal details

Academic details

Category (CIWG / NRI / Foreign)

Step 3: Upload Documents

Upload scanned copies of:

Category certificate (if applicable)

Step 4: Choice Filling & Locking

Select preferred institutes and branches

Lock choices carefully (no frequent changes allowed)

Step 5: Seat Allotment

Seats are allotted based on:

JEE Main rank

Category

Availability

Step 6: Reporting & Admission

Accept seat

Pay fees

Report to allotted institute

Choice Filling Strategy: A Game-Changer

Choice filling is one of the most critical stages of DASA counselling. The decisions made during this step directly affect the final seat allotment, so students must approach it with proper research and strategy.

Choice filling is one of the most critical steps in DASA.

Smart Tips

Research NITs and IIITs in advance

Check previous year cutoffs

Prioritize branch vs college carefully

Lock realistic and backup options

Documents You Must Prepare in Advance

Proper documentation is a key part of the DASA application process. Preparing all required documents in advance ensures that you do not face delays or rejection during verification.

To avoid last-minute issues, keep these ready:

Passport

Class 10 Marksheet

Class 11 / 12 Marksheet

JEE Main Scorecard

CIWG documents (if applicable)

Special Note: IIIT Hyderabad Applicants

While most institutes follow the central DASA process, some institutions have their own admission systems. Students interested in specific institutes like IIIT Hyderabad should be aware of these differences to avoid missing opportunities.

Students interested in International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad should note:

It has a separate admission portal

SAT-based admissions may still apply for their process

Deadline expected around May 31, 2026

Important Tips for Gulf Students

Students from the Gulf region face unique challenges, including documentation, travel, and category eligibility. Having the right guidance and preparation can make the entire DASA process much smoother.

Students from the Middle East should:

Start document preparation early

Track deadlines regularly

Ensure passport validity

Understand CIWG eligibility clearly

If you are planning to apply to top engineering colleges in India through the DASA scheme in 2025, there are some big updates you should know. The DASA (Direct Admission of Students Abroad) process is now linked with CSAB-Special Rounds. This change will make the process easier and more organized for NRI, OCI, PIO, and foreign students. Let’s look at the important changes and what they mean for you.

Combined DASA and CSAB-Special Rounds:

Earlier, DASA and CSAB-Special Rounds were two separate admission processes. In 2025, they will happen together through a single system. This new step is taken to make the admission process simpler and more student-friendly.

Now, you don’t need to register on two different websites. You can apply for both DASA and CSAB-Special Rounds using one registration on the CSAB website: https://csab.nic.in. All updates and results will be available on this portal.

Special Round System for Student:

With this new system, everything will be handled in one place. This will save time and reduce confusion. Students eligible for both DASA and CSAB-Special Rounds will benefit the most.

You only need to register once and upload your documents once. DASA candidates will go through document checking before seats are given. If you get a seat under CSAB-Special Rounds, then you must follow CSAB’s process for document checking.

Information available on Websites:

It is important to know what each website is used for so that you don’t miss anything. CSAB and DASA websites have different responsibilities, even though they work together.

The CSAB Portal https://csab.nic.in is used for:

Registration and choice filling for both DASA and CSAB-Special Rounds

Downloading the DASA 2025 brochure (v1.1 released on May 26, 2025)

Reading the CSAB-Special brochure

Reading a special notice for students applying to both schemes

The DASA Website https://dasanit.org/dasa2025 is used for:

Checking DASA rules and eligibility

Viewing fee details for DASA

Getting scheme-specific updates

Admission Information:

Even though DASA is now linked with CSAB-Special Rounds, the admission rule remains the same. DASA 2025 will still give admission based only on JEE Main 2025 rank.

There is no SAT score required. So if you are applying through DASA UG 2025, make sure you have a valid JEE Main score.

Important Dates for DASA UG 2025:

To join the admission process successfully, you must know the key dates. Missing any deadline may lead to rejection.

Here are the main dates for DASA 2025:

Registration and Choice Filling Starts: July 30, 2025

Application Deadline: August 3, 2025

Last Date to Fill Choices: August 7, 2025

Expected Seat Allotment Dates:

Round 1: August 9, 2025

Round 2: August 14, 2025

Round 3: August 19, 2025

Round 4: Date will be announced

Special or Spot Round: Only if seats are left

Reservation Rules for Different Students:

Reservation rules are different for each group of students. These changes matter if you are applying as an NRI, OCI, PIO, or foreign national.

For NRI Students:

No reservation for GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, or PwD under DASA or CSAB-Special.

For OCI and PIO Students:

Only PwD reservation is available under CSAB-Special.

No other reservations (GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST) apply under either scheme.

For Girls:

Supernumerary (extra) seats for girls are available under CSAB-Special.

These extra seats are not available in DASA.

Make sure to check your category and understand what benefits apply to you.

Step by Step for Application:

The registration process for DASA 2025 is now easy and fully online. You only need to follow a few steps to complete your application.

Here’s what to do:

Use your JEE Main 2025 application number and date of birth to register at https://csab.nic.in

Fill in your choices

Upload all necessary documents

Pay the fees as given in the DASA guidelines

You only need to register once to take part in both DASA and CSAB-Special Rounds.

Official Brochures:

Before applying, it’s very important to read the official brochures. These documents have all the rules, steps, and policies. They help you avoid mistakes.
You should download and read:

DASA 2025 Information Brochure (Version 1.1)

Important notice for students applying to both DASA and CSAB-Special 2025

Get the Complete Information about DASA 2025 Brochure.

You can find both on https://csab.nic.in and https://dasanit.org/dasa2025

Important Point to Remember:

If you are applying to Indian colleges through NRI or foreign student quotas, these updates are for you. This includes:

NRI (Non-Resident Indian) students

OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) holders

PIO (Person of Indian Origin) cardholders

Foreign nationals

If you qualify for both DASA and CSAB-Special Rounds, this new system will help you apply more easily. But you must follow the correct process.

DASA 2025 brings a major change by combining with CSAB-Special Rounds. This new system is more organized and easier to follow. However, students need to be careful about deadlines, documents, and rules for each scheme.

Prepare your documents early, read all brochures, and follow the steps on time. This will help you get a smooth admission into top Indian engineering colleges through the DASA scheme.
