The Indian DASA (Direct Admission of Students Abroad) scheme was launched in the year 2001 by the Indian Union Government with the objective of providing international students with an opportunity to study engineering in India.  The scheme offers admissions to international students, Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs) and Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) to pursue undergraduate and postgraduate engineering courses in India. The scheme aims to promote Indian higher education globally and build a community of international students who can contribute to the Indian education system. Since its inception, the DASA scheme has undergone several revisions and updates to make it more inclusive and accessible to international students. As a result, the number of seats available through the DASA scheme may vary from year to year, depending on the availability of seats in participating institutions.  For the academic year 2022, the Ministry of Education, Government of India offered 3492 seats through General DASA Seats plus CIWG DASA Seats for admissions to NITs, Centrally Funded Technical Institutions, and other Premier Technical Institutions (other than IITs).
