NTSE Stage 1

NTSE Stage 1 Overview

Candidates who wish to appear for NTSE Stage 1 can apply through offline/online mode from their respective State/UT or as specified by the exam authorities. They have to download the form online and submit it to the school principal for attestation before the last date, along with the application fee (if applicable). The offline NTSE application form can be obtained from the school or the contact officers listed for the States/UTs.
The notification of the availability of the application form for the NTSE state-level examination is also made available in local/national newspapers or circulars circulated in schools by the concerned State/UT.
NTSE Admit Card is attached to the application form of the NTSE and must be filled out by the candidates. This admit card is then signed by the State Liaison Officer and handed over to the candidate.

Eligibility Criteria For NTSE Stage 1

Students studying in schools in India are eligible to appear for the phase 1 exam. The eligibility criteria are as follows:
  • Candidate must be a Class 10th student from any Government/Private school in India.
  • No domicile restriction exists; the candidate can be from any State/Union Territory of India.
  • Candidates pursuing education from open schools or distance learning are also eligible to write NTSE 2023 provided they are below 18 years old, unemployed, and appearing for the Class 10 board examination for the first time.

NTSE STAGE – 1 Syllabus

NTSE is conducted for students studying in Class X. Only Class X students (below 18 years of age) can appear for the exam.
NTSE syllabus is divided into two stages, each having objective-type questions. They are diversified into two groups: MAT and SAT.

The MAT (Mental Ability Test)

Mental Ability Test or MAT is used to evaluate a student's ability, problem-solving and logical reasoning abilities to assess their cognitive skills. These abilities are measured using a variety of questions such as data analytics, shape problems, verbal and nonverbal reasoning, and so on. It examines a student's general approach to mapping and problem-solving and tests their thought process.

The SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test):

Scholastic Aptitude Test or SAT examine students' knowledge in subjects like Science, Mathematics and Social Science. The syllabus is similar to classes IX and X.

The SAT consists of 100 math, science, and social science questions for 100 marks.

NTSE STAGE – 1 Pattern:

National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) is conducted in two phases. The first level is conducted separately in each state/UT. Candidates selected in the first round of examination will be eligible for the national level examination.
Both the stages of the exam are conducted in two parts. The first part is the Mental Ability Test (MAT), and the second is the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).
