New Exam Pattern for CBSE Class 9, 10, 11 and 12 Students

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is the governing body that conducts the Class 10th and 12th board exams in all the affiliated schools in India and abroad. For the academic year 2022-23, the board has revised its evaluation policy to align assessment to Competency-Based Education. In its official notification, CBSE has confirmed that in the forthcoming session, a greater number of Competency Based Questions or questions that assess the application of concepts in real-life/ unfamiliar situations will be a part of the question paper.

In addition, CBSE has also scrapped the two-term examination policy that was implemented due to the pandemic. This year, a single examination will be conducted at the end of the year, covering the entire syllabus. For subjects with internal assessment, each paper will carry 80 marks, and the remaining 20 marks will comprise of internal assessment.

Furthermore, the emphasis will be placed on moving from rote to competency-based learning to proactively equip students with key competencies to meet the challenges of the 21st century. These can be in the form of Multiple Choice Questions, Case based Questions, Source-based Integrated Questions or any other types. Objective Type Questions will be 20% Remaining 40% short answer/long answer questions (as per existing pattern)

For Classes 11th and 12th:

CBSE 2023 Internal Assessment and Evaluation:

In addition to the new exam pattern, the school has to conduct internal assessments and evaluations for each subject. The Internal Assessment will be of a total of 20 marks which are divided into four sections:
