NEET-UG Seat Allocation – All India Quota

15% of the total seats are reserved under the All India Quota (AIQ). The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Government of India, will conduct the Counselling for 15% All India Quota Seats, Deemed Universities, Central Universities, Seats of ESIC and AFMC, BHU & AMU. Seats reserved under the All India Quota are open to all qualified candidates, including…

Indian Nationals

Foreign Nationals

NRIs

Overseas Citizen of India (OCIs)

Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs).

Candidates from any state can participate in 15% All India Quota Counselling. NTA draws the merit list of qualified candidates for 15% All India Quota seats. Only those candidates who appeared on the merit list will be called for online counselling.

Furthermore, within this 15% AIQ, there are reservations for different categories as well, which are as follows:

Category

Reservation under AIQ

OBC

27% seats

SC

15% seats

ST

7.5% seats

PwD

5% seats

Seat allotment under 15% All India Quota is determined by order of merit lists and centralised NEET counselling. During the counselling sessions, candidates can select their preferred college. But the current Indian reservation Policy determines candidates’ admission to medical programmes.

However, there are certain exceptions to this, as candidates from certain states are ineligible for the AIQ because they chose not to participate. Such candidates must provide a self-declaration form to take part in the 15% AIQ counselling. They must meet the requirements in order to apply for admission to any private medical schools, deemed universities, or even the AFMC.

NEET-UG State Quota- 85%

The State Quota account for 85% of the seats. It means that in each Indian state, 85% of the total medical seats (government) are reserved for candidates residing in that specific state. The allotment of these seats is based on NEET-UG 2022 scores and counselling at the state level. Candidates may apply to their domicile states and merit list as per State rules and based on All India Rank will be prepared by concerned Counselling Authorities. The concerned State Counselling Authority will also conduct counselling for Private Medical Colleges.

Candidates are advised to contact the respective Counselling Authorities and Institutions concerned for further details.

NEET-UG NRI Quota:

Apart from the 15% All India Quota and 85% State Quota, there is also a 15% designated special quota for NRIs (Non-Residents Indians) known as the NRI Quota. MCI (Medical Council of India) has reserved 15% of the seats in many colleges under the NRI quota.

The NRI Quota also includes Persons of Indian Origin (POI) and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI); however, it is mandatory for all candidates to pass the NEET UG examination.

MCI has exclusively reserved the NRI quota for students who live and study outside India yet are originally from the country. Therefore, NRI students can easily acquire admission in these 15% reserved seats and study in prestigious Indian medical institutes through NRI Quota.

Candidate with a higher NEET Biology score will be ranked higher on the merit list.

In case the NEET Biology score is also the same, then the candidate with a higher NEET Chemistry score will be ranked higher on the merit list.

If the tie persists even after taking into account the preceding two variables, the candidate with the fewest incorrect responses will be ranked higher on the merit list.

NEET-UG 2022 Result:

NTA will release the NEET-UG 2022 result on its official website https://neet.nta.nic.in tentatively by the end of July. NEET 2022 aspirants need to log into their accounts to check their results.

NEET 2022 scorecards will feature the candidate’s name, application number, DOB, total and subject-wise marks, as well as their NEET All India Rank (AIR). In addition, the result will also show the NEET 2022 cut-off and qualifying status.

NEET 2022 Counseling:

Following the declaration of the NEET 2022 result and merit list, NEET 2022 counselling will be conducted by the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) for 15% All India Quota (AIQ) medical seats in central universities.

The remaining 85% state quota seats will be filled by the respective state counselling process based on the NEET 2022 rank. Each state will announce the NEET 2022 state-wise merit list based on the respective NEET cut-off scores. Candidates who have passed the NEET can also apply for admission to private medical schools through state counselling.

NRI (Non-Residentials Indian), POI (Person of Indian Origin) & OCI (Overseas Citizens of India) can apply under the 15% NRI quota.

FAQs by NRI students:

Q 1: When will the cut-off for NRI or overseas students be released?

A: The cut-off will be released by NTA along with the declaration of the result soon on its official website https://neet.nta.nic.in.

Q 2: Will the NEET 2022 cut-off be higher for NRI students this year?

A: The NEET 2022 cut-off can be increased or decreased depending on factors such as the difficulty level of the exam, the number of candidates, their performance, the number of seats available and so on.

Q 3: Is there a quota for NRIs at AIIMS?

A: In AIIMS, there is no special AIIMS NRI quota. To get admission in the AIIMS MBBS program, a student must pass the NEET-UG test with a high score. But for the session 2021-22, as a temporary relief, NRI candidates can apply in the Foreign Nationals category for admissions to AIIMS. (7 seats are available at AIIMS).
