The JEE MAIN 2022 Session 1, which took place in June has now come to an end. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the JEE Main 2022 exam in two shifts, one in the morning and one in the evening, for a total of 12 papers over 7 days. Over 9,25,000 students had registered for Session 1 of JEE (Main) 2022.

The Subject Matter Experts of ALLEN Overseas have prepared a thorough JEE MAIN 2022 Paper Analysis of Session 1 to aid students like you in understanding the paper, the difficulty level of the questions, and topic-wise weightage. The analysis is done after speaking with the students who had appeared for the JEE (Main) 2022 Session 1. Let’s start!

JEE MAIN 2022 Paper Analysis Physics

The Physics paper this year was surprisingly on the moderate side.

  • The paper wasn’t lengthy and every chapter was covered.
  • Topics like Unit and Dimension, Fluid and every other topic had equal weightage.
  • Maximum questions were asked from Electromagnetism, contrary to prediction, which put emphasis on Mechanics.
  • Mostly, questions from simple topics were asked, and most of them were formulas based.
  • The interesting thing, questions from JEE Main Specific Topics were in bulk.
  • Almost every paper had at least 5 questions from the JEE MAIN Specific topics and one paper even had 7 questions.

Physics Class-wise Analysis:

Physics questions from class 12th had more weight than those from the 11th.

  • As we are aware that the many topics are more widespread in the class 12th than in the 11th, it was quite predictable that most of the questions were asked from class 12th.
  • Following the new trend, there were a good number of questions from the mix of the Class 11th and 12th concepts combined together.

Refer to the table below for a detailed overview of the JEE (Main) 2022 June attempt (Physics) 11th VS 12th VS Mix Questions.

Physics Easy-Moderate-Tough Questions Analysis:

It was noted that over 50% of the questions fall under the easy category. There were a few tough questions but the students who had prepared all the topics could easily score at least 70% in Physics.

If you took the JEE MAIN 2022 Paper Analysis Session 1 and were able to recall the formulas, the physics part of the exam would have been a breeze for you because the majority of the problems were formula-based and extremely scoreable.

The Physics section of JEE (Main) 2022 Session 1 was moderately easy in comparison to previous years, defying the perception that it is the most difficult part of the JEE (Main) exam.

JEE MAIN 2022 Paper Analysis Mathematics:

Breaking its own record, the mathematics section was difficult compared to last year.

  • The questions in the paper were balanced, and almost every single chapter/topic was covered.
  • Surprising us, the tricky yet scoring Algebra topic had more weightage this session.
  • It was noted that in all the 12 papers, almost the same number of questions were asked from Algebra.
  • Generally, Calculus has the maximum weightage, falling somewhere between 33-34%, but this time it was just 31%, which might seem minute in comparison but has a huge impact.
  • Just like physics, there was an abundance of JEE (Main) Specific Topics questions.
  • And like physics, the questions in the mathematics section were pretty straightforward.

Listed below is the topic-wise analysis of the Mathematics section depicting the number of questions asked under each topic and their weightage.

Mathematics Class-wise Analysis:

After speaking to students we found that there were a lot of mixed concept questions.

  • Once again the 12th Class topics won the race, though a good number of questions were asked from 11th Class topics too.
  • This year we saw a lot of mixed concept questions, that is, to solve a single question, concepts from 2-3 chapters were used.
  • Another mixed-type question was the combination of class 11th and 12th topics. Students had to use the combined concepts from both classes to solve questions.

Refer to the table below to understand the weightage of questions from Class 11th and 12th.

Mathematics Easy-Moderate-Tough Questions Analysis:

According to the students, the paper was time consuming due to many calculation based questions.

  • As new types of math questions keep appearing, math questions have only become more challenging each year.
  • With more and more calculation-based questions asked each year, it is time to mentally prepare yourself. There is no shortcut, you’ll have to calculate your way to success.

Have a look at the table listed below showing the level of questions asked in the Session 1 of  JEE (Main) 2022.

A big applause to NTA, as in all the JEE (Main) 12 papers held for continuous 7 days, only 4 questions showed ambiguity.

JEE MAIN 2022 Paper Analysis Chemistry:

Organic Chemistry:

Once again, the chemistry section was less time-consuming and the organic chemistry was relatively easier.

  • Just like every other section, the questions were distributed evenly amongst every Organic Chemistry topic.
  • Unlike physics and chemistry, there was language ambiguity in 5 questions and corrections in 2.
  • Numerical questions were very few and in one paper there was no numerical question.

Organic Chemistry Topic-wise Analysis:

The questions were mostly objective type and straightforward. Find below the topic-wise analysis of the Organic Chemistry section.

Physical Chemistry:

As seen from the trend in the last 2-3 years, section A of Physical Chemistry contributed to fewer questions. Most of the Physical Chemistry questions are asked in Section B.

  • Every year, the Mole Concept sees the maximum number of questions and this year was no different.
  • Surprisingly there were fewer questions from Surface chemistry.

Physical Chemistry Class-wise Analysis:

Different from other subjects, more questions were asked from the 11th standard, but this is because the Mole concept and Gaseous State are one of the core topics in 11th class NCERT books. So by default, questions from the 11th class were more.

  • There were no 11th and 12th mixed topic-based questions.
  • It should be mentioned that we all know that Mole and PB=NRT are used in every question, therefore this phenomenon was not considered while calculating the mix of 11 and 12 questions.

See the table below to know the weightage and number of questions asked from every class.

Physical Chemistry Easy-Moderate-Tough Questions Analysis:

  • In Physical Chemistry, there were more easy questions followed by moderate but there were hardly any tough questions.
  • Additionally, there weren’t many questions with direct answers, but the majority of them involved calculations of some sort, particularly in section B, where it took 3 to 4 steps to answer a single question.

Refer to the table below to know the weightage as per the question level.

Physical Chemistry is easy and scoring as it dominated the integer-based value questions.

Inorganic Chemistry

NTA designed the paper in such a way that there was a question on each topic.

  • The distribution of questions was neutral among all topics of just not inorganic chemistry but whole chemistry.
  • Maximum weightage is given to Chemical Bonding in Inorganic Chemistry. Normally Coordination Compound exceeds any other chapter but this time it was not so. But last year, this chapter saw the highest number of questions.
  • There were hardly any questions from Salt Analysis and as noticed there haven’t been many for the last 2 years. Though in JEE (Advanced) maximum weightage and questions are from mixed concepts of Salt Analysis.

Since questions were asked from every topic, we may infer that no chapter/topic should be overlooked when studying inorganic chemistry. The weightage of questions may vary but you should leave no leaf unturned.

Tip: The students preparing for the Session 2 of JEE (Main) 2022 or JEE (Advanced) 2022 should know their formulas as the maximum number of questions asked could be answered using a formula.

According to experts of ALLEN Overseas, your strategy for the next session or JEE (Advanced) 2022 should be to pick your shot. Why touch a wide ball and get out when the next bouncer could get you a six! Don’t spend too much time solving the tough questions only to get disheartened and leave no time for solving the easy yet scoring ones.
