DASA 2026 Fee and Refund Policy

Candidates applying under the Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) 2026 scheme are required to pay the registration fee and first semester tuition fee at the time of filling the online application form. The fee structure varies based on the admission category and is subject to change as per the official DASA 2026 Information Brochure.

DASA 2026 – Fee Structure

The following table details the fees payable by candidates under different admission categories for DASA 2026:

*SAARC Tuition Waiver: Foreign nationals of SAARC countries (except India) get a 50% tuition fee waiver, provided they passed their qualifying (Class XII or equivalent) examination in a SAARC country. They pay US$ 2,300 total (US$ 300 registration + US$ 2,000 tuition).

CIWG option for NRIs: NRI candidates eligible for CIWG seats can additionally choose to be considered for Non-CIWG seats under the DASA (Non-SAARC) tag. To do this, they must pay the full DASA (Non-SAARC) fee of US$ 4,300. Such candidates will see both CIWG and Non-CIWG seats as separate options while filling choices. If final admission happens to be under the CIWG category, the balance tuition fee is refunded.

Payment mode: DEF must be paid in one transaction via Debit Card, Credit Card, Net Banking, UPI, or e-challan (for INR payments). Payments can be made in USD or in equivalent INR at the prevailing exchange rate — parents in India or abroad may pay in either currency. Any transaction charges are borne by the candidate.

What DEF does NOT cover: DEF only covers the DASA registration fee and first-semester tuition. Any balance tuition fee (for institutes other than NITs/IIEST Shibpur), hostel fees, and other institute-specific charges must be paid separately, directly to the admitting institute, at the time of physical reporting. DASA 2026 is not responsible for individual institutes’ fee structures — candidates should check the respective institute’s website.

DASA 2026 – Refund Policy

1. Full Tuition Fee Refund

A candidate gets the entire tuition fee refunded if any of the following apply:

• The candidate exercises the ‘Exit’ option (available only to candidates who have not been allotted any seat, and only up to the end of Round I).
• The candidate is not allotted any seat in any round of DASA seat allocation.
• The candidate’s candidature is cancelled during document verification.
• The candidate did not fill and save even one choice during online choice filling.

2. 50% Tuition Fee Refund

A candidate gets half the tuition fee refunded if:

• An allotted candidate does not complete online reporting (i.e., fails to accept/exercise willingness against the offered seat).
• The candidate exercises the ‘Withdraw’ option in any round (available only up to Round I; not available once the last round begins).

3. No Refund

No tuition fee is refunded in these cases:

• The candidate does not physically report at the admitting institute within the specified reporting window.
• The candidate fails to produce valid, original eligibility documents for physical verification at the admitting institute.
• The candidate’s admission is cancelled for violating special eligibility/restriction criteria of the allotted academic program.
• The candidate is allotted a seat in the last round of seat allocation (Round II) — no refund applies here even on non-joining, since it’s the terminal round.

4. Special Refund Cases

• CIWG/Non-CIWG dual filing: NRI candidates who filled choices for both CIWG and Non-CIWG (DASA Non-SAARC) seats, and are finally admitted under the CIWG category, get the balance tuition fee refunded (since CIWG tuition, ₹62,500, is typically lower than the Non-SAARC US$4,000 fee).
• JoSAA seat retention cases: Candidates who already secured a NIT+ system seat via JoSAA 2026 (paid Seat Acceptance Fee + Partial Admission Fee) and also register for fresh DASA rounds: if DASA allots them a new seat, their retained JoSAA seat is automatically cancelled with no claim on it. The balance DASA amount, if any, is refunded after adjustment.
• Provisional Class XII candidates: Candidates admitted provisionally (pending Class XII results) must submit final results meeting the eligibility bar (75% aggregate / 7.5 CGPA) by September 30, 2026. If they fail to do so, or their results don’t meet the eligibility bar, the seat and candidature are cancelled and no refund applies (since this falls outside the four full-refund conditions above).

Mode of Refund

Refunds, where due, are credited to the candidate’s bank account. At the time of DEF payment itself, candidates must enter:

• Account holder name
• Account number
• IFSC code
• Bank name and address
• SWIFT code
• Telephone number
• IBAN number (mandatory for banks in the Middle East / GCC / Europe)

A scanned copy of a cancelled cheque or the stamped front page of the passbook for the same account must also be uploaded. Incorrect bank details can delay or prevent refund processing; candidates should double-check this at the time of payment.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) – DASA 2026 Fee & Refund

1. Is the US$300 registration fee refundable under any circumstances?
No. The registration fee of USD 300 is strictly non-refundable under all circumstances, including application rejection, ineligibility, seat not allotted, or withdrawal.

2. I haven’t been allotted any seat so far. Can I get my tuition fee back?
Yes. If you’re not allotted a seat in any round, you’re entitled to a full refund of the tuition fee (registration fee excluded). You can also formally exercise the ‘Exit’ option to leave the process and trigger this refund, but exit is only available before Round II begins.

3. I was allotted a seat but want to reject it. What refund do I get?

It depends on when and how you reject it:

• If you choose ‘Withdraw’ after being allotted a seat (available only up to Round I), you get a 50% refund of the tuition fee.
• If you accept the seat first (Freeze/Float/Slide) and later decide not to join after physical reporting, or you’re allotted a seat in the last round, no refund applies.

4. What’s the difference between ‘Surrender’ and ‘Withdraw’?
‘Surrender’ rejects your current seat but keeps you in the process for the next round (you may get a different, possibly better, seat). ‘Withdraw’ rejects the seat and exits the process entirely. This is what triggers the 50% refund. Surrender itself doesn’t directly trigger a refund since you remain in allocation.

5. My Class XII results are delayed beyond September 30, 2026. What happens?
Your provisional admission and candidature will be cancelled, and this does not fall under any of the full-refund conditions, so no refund is provided in this case. There’s no extension possible; the deadline is firm.

6. I’m an NRI eligible for CIWG. Can I also be considered for Non-SAARC seats?
Yes, pay the full US$4,300 DASA (Non-SAARC) fee, and you’ll be shown both CIWG and Non-CIWG seat choices. If you’re finally admitted under CIWG, the balance fee is refunded to you.

7. How and where will my refund be sent?
Refunds are sent electronically to the bank account details (including IFSC/SWIFT/IBAN as applicable) you provide at the time of DEF payment. Make sure these details are accurate. Incorrect details can delay your refund, and DASA is not responsible for such delays.

8. Does the refund policy apply the same way to all participating institutes (NITs, IIEST, IIITs, GFTIs)?
Yes. The DEF, tuition fee, and refund rules described here are uniform across the entire DASA 2026 process regardless of which participating institute you’re eventually allotted to. However, any balance fee beyond the first semester (and hostel fees) is institute-specific and paid separately.

9. Who do I contact if my refund is delayed or I have a fee-related grievance?
