The JEE Main 2026 registration process has introduced several important updates by the National Testing Agency (NTA) to make the application more secure, transparent, and user-friendly. This year, students will experience major digital upgrades such as Aadhaar-based e-KYC verification, live photo capture, DigiLocker integration, and address-based exam city allotment. These changes aim to minimize manual errors, ensure authenticity, and simplify the overall process.

In this blog, we’ll explain all the new updates in JEE Main 2026 registration, highlight the required documents, and share important exam dates to help you complete your application correctly and on time.

JEE Main 2026 Registration Updates:

1. e-KYC Verification through Aadhaar:

The most significant change in the JEE Main 2026 registration process is the introduction of Aadhaar-based e-KYC verification.

Aadhaar-Based Auto-Fetch and Verification

If you choose to use your Aadhar Card, the NTA portal will automatically fetch important data such as your name, date of birth, gender, photograph, and address directly from the UIDAI database.

This step ensures that all personal details are accurate, consistent, and match your official records.

Students who prefer not to use Aadhaar e-KYC can still complete the registration using alternative identity documents and manually entering/uploading required details.

Remember: If you choose Aadhar-based e-KYC verification, ensure that your Aadhaar information matches your school or academic records. Any discrepancy may lead to verification issues later.

2. Live Photo Capture for Authenticity:

To prevent impersonation and enhance security, the NTA now requires real-time image capture during the application process.

  • Real-Time Capture: Candidates must take a live photo using a webcam or mobile camera (by scanning a QR code) while filling out the form.
  • Automatic Verification: The captured image will be automatically compared with the photograph stored in the Aadhaar database to confirm your identity.

This ensures that every application is authentic and linked directly to the candidate’s verified identity.

3. DigiLocker Integration for Paperless Verification:

The JEE Main 2026 registration process is now more digital and eco-friendly. The NTA has made DigiLocker verification mandatory to ensure a completely paperless and secure document submission process.

By linking your DigiLocker account, your identity and documents can be verified instantly. This step eliminates the need for uploading multiple files manually and reduces the risk of data errors.

However, this feature is optional. You can still complete the registration even without DigiLocker, by manually uploading the required documents.

4. Address-Based Exam City Allotment:

In a major change to exam centre logistics, the NTA will now allot exam cities based on your Aadhaar-linked address.

  • Address-Based Allocation: The examination city will primarily depend on the applicant’s choice.
  • Limited Choice: While you can still select preferred cities during registration, the final centre will be assigned within or near your registered state to ensure fairness and convenience.

This update helps reduce long travel times and ensures candidates get centres closer to home.

5. New Document Requirement – Class 11 Registration Number:

A new field has been added to the JEE Main 2026 application form to improve candidate tracking and exam management.

Candidates must now provide their Class 11 Registration Number.
This number is usually issued by your school or board and helps NTA maintain a verified record of all applicants.

Action Required: Keep your Class 11 Registration Number ready before you start filling out the application form.

6. Exam Hall Clarification – No Calculators Allowed:

A crucial clarification from the NTA confirms that calculators—physical, digital, or virtual—are strictly prohibited during the JEE Main 2026 Computer-Based Test (CBT).

An earlier mention of a virtual calculator on the mock platform was a technical error. Candidates must rely solely on manual calculations, so regular practice is essential.

7. Important Dates for JEE Main 2026 (Session 1):

Event Date / Period
Registration Start Date October 31, 2025
Last Date to Apply and Pay Fee November 27, 2025
Exam Dates (Session 1) January 21 – January 30, 2026

Note: Always visit the official NTA JEE Main website for the most recent and accurate updates.

Final Tips for your JEE Main 2026 (Session 1) Registration:

  • Verify your Aadhaar details in advance.
  • Keep your Class 11 Registration Number and academic documents ready.
  • Ensure a stable internet connection during live photo capture.
  • Use the DigiLocker account linked to your Aadhaar for faster verification.
  • Recheck your entries before final submission to avoid form rejection.

The JEE Main 2026 registration process marks a significant step toward a more secure and technology-driven system. With the integration of Aadhaar verification, DigiLocker, and live photo authentication, the NTA aims to create a fair and error-free registration experience for all candidates.

If you’re preparing for JEE Main 2026, make sure to follow these updated guidelines carefully to complete your application successfully and stay one step ahead in your exam journey.
