The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) has released the JoSAA Counselling 2022 schedule on its official website www.josaa.nic.in to offer admission into IITs, NITs, and other institutes across the country. As per the schedule, the JEE Advanced 2022 result will be declared on 11 September 2022 and the online registration and choice-filling process will begin on 12 September 2022, 10 AM IST onwards. The first round of seat allocation will start on 23 September, 2022 at 10 AM IST.

The JoSAA Counselling 2022 will be conducted in 6 rounds in online mode. Candidates who have passed class 12 with the prescribed marks and qualified JEE Main or JEE Advanced are eligible to participate in JoSAA Counselling 2022 process. To register for JoSAA 2022, candidates need to select their colleges and courses.

What is JoSAA Counselling?

The Ministry of Education [erstwhile the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD)] has established the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) to manage and regulate the joint seat allocation for admissions to 114 institutes including 23 IITs, 31 NITs, IIEST Shibpur, 26 IIITs, and 33 Other-Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs). Admission into all the academic programmes offered by these institutions will be done via JoSAA only.

JoSAA 2022 Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates must fulfill the prescribed eligibility criteria before registering for JoSAA Counselling 2022 to avoid any rejection at a later stage. The eligibility criteria is as follows:

For JEE Advanced Counselling:

  • Candidates must have qualified JEE Advanced 2022 exam for various academic programs (excluding the preparatory courses) at IITs, or
  • Candidates must have qualified JEE Advanced 2022 for preparatory courses at IITs and
  • Candidates must have scored the prescribed marks in their class 12th or any equivalent examinations.

For JEE Main Counselling:

For B.E or B. Tech Program at NITs, IIITs, and Other-GFTIs:

  • Candidates must have secured a rank in JEE Main 2022 Paper-1.
  • Candidates must have passed Class 12 (or equivalent) exam with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with any one of the following subjects – Chemistry/ Biotechnology/ Biology/ Technical Vocational subject.

For the Architecture Program at NITs, IIEST, IIITs, and Other-GFTIs:

  • Candidates must have secured a rank in JEE Main 2022 Paper-2 for B. Arch. with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics
  • Candidates must have secured a rank in JEE Main 2022 Paper-3 for B. Planning with Mathematics as a compulsory subject

JoSAA Counselling 2022 Process:

Overview:

  • Candidates who have qualified JEE Main 2022 or JEE Advanced 2022 are eligible to participate in the JoSAA Counselling 2022.
  • Candidates need to visit the official website www.josaa.nic.in to register for the JoSAA Counselling 2022.
  • Next, they need to select their preferred colleges and courses from the list available.
  • Finally, the seat allotment begins. Seats are assigned to candidates based on their rank (AIR), category, availability of seats and various other factors.
  • After counselling is over, the JoSAA 2022 Cut-Off Ranking, Opening and Closing Ranks are announced.
  • The entire counselling and allocation process will be done online.
  • Once the seats have been allocated, to confirm admission candidates need to get their documents verified and pay the admission fee at the allocated college.

Counselling Procedure:

JoSAA Counselling 2022 procedure includes registration, choice filling, seat allocation, and admission confirmation.

Step 1: Registration: To begin, candidates need to register for JoSAA Counselling 2022:

  • Visit the official website of JoSAA 2022.
  • Click on the registration link
  • Register using your JEE Main 2022 Roll number and Password.
  • Candidates who have qualified JEE Advanced 2022 may register using their respective passwords.
  • Fill in the basic information including nationality, state eligibility code, gender, and more.
  • Review the details and re-confirm them.
  • Once submitted, no personal information (except contact information) can be changed by the candidates.

Step 2: Choice Filling: After registration, candidates need to fill in their preferred college and course and lock their choices.

  • Log in to the official JoSAA Counselling 2022 portal by entering your roll number and password.
  • Click on “Choices Available” to view the options available as per your qualification.
  • Next, go to ‘Choice Filling & Locking’ and fill in enough choices to improve your chances of getting a seat.
  • Lock your filled choices before submitting.

Note: Choice filling is completely free of cost and no changes can be made once the filled choice is locked.

Step 3: Mock Seat Allotment: JoSAA 2022 mock seat allotment will be held by authorities to help applicants in knowing their chances of admission into their desired colleges. If the colleges and courses allotted during the mock seat allocation are unsatisfactory, the candidates may change their order preferences accordingly.

  • The mock seat allotment process will begin on 23 September 2022.
  • Candidates can check the mock seat allocation by visiting the official website.
  • Log in using your JEE Main 2022 application number, and password.
  • Download your provisional allotment letter and take a printout.

Since the allotment is not final, the candidates will have enough time to change their order of preferences.

Step 4: JoSAA 2022 Seat Allotment: Following mock allocation, the final JoSAA 2022 seat allocation will be held in 6 rounds. Seats are assigned to candidates based on their scores in qualifying exams (JEE Main & JEE Advanced) and their selected preferences. To check the JoSAA 2022 Seat Allocation result, follow the given steps:

  • Visit the official website www.josaa.nic.in.
  • Click on the “View Seat Allotment Result” link.
  • Log in using your JEE Main 2022 application number, and password.
  • Your JoSAA 2022 seat allotment result will be displayed on the screen.
  • Download the allotment letter and take a printout.

After seat allotment, candidates can choose any one of the following options:

Freeze: Candidates must choose this option if they are happy with the seat they have been assigned and do not want to take part in any additional rounds of counselling.

Float: Candidates must choose this option if they want to accept the seat they have been assigned but are also open to upgradation and admission to higher-preferred institutes or courses.

Slide: Candidates should choose this option to confirm their allotment but are also open to upgradation and admission to higher-preferred courses in the same institute.

Step 5: Seat Acceptance: After downloading the allotment letter, candidates need to pay the seat acceptance fee which is as follows:

  • Fees can be paid through online payment modes (Credit Card, Debit Card, and Netbanking).
  • After submitting the fees, candidates need to report at the reporting center for document verification.

Step 6: Reporting for Document Verification: Once the candidates have accepted the seat, they need to report at the prescribed reporting center to get their documents verified.

  • Candidates must arrive at the designated reporting center on the specified date and time.
  • Candidates should bring all their original documents as well as photocopies for verification.

Note: For candidates who select the float option may get a better seat in the next counselling round, therefore they must report again with the documents for verification.

Step 7: Reporting for Admission: After completing all the processes, candidates need to report at their allocated JoSAA college to finish further formalities of the admission procedure to confirm their admission.

JoSAA 2022 Seat Allotment in IITs:

For Foreign National Candidates:

  • Foreign National candidates will be considered under the GEN category.
  • They must be in the CRL (Common Rank List) and should fulfill every eligibility requirement for the GEN category.
  • Seats allocated to such candidates will have the provision of being supernumerary. The number of supernumerary seats will comprise 10% of the total number of seats.
  • The foreign candidates will not be considered under JoSAA counselling for admission to NITs, IIEST, IIITs and GFTIs.

For DS (Defence Service) Students:

  • De-reservation of Unfilled category seats
  • Two (2) seats will be allocated to the DS category students in IITs.
  • Candidates to be on the Common Rank List (CRL)
  • Such students will be counted under their birth category in addition to the DS category.

Preparatory Courses:

  • Unfilled OPEN-PwD seats will be allocated to applicants in CRL-PwD preparatory rank list in case no more applicants in the CRL-PwD rank list have opted for it.
  • OBC-NCL-PwD seats that remain unfilled will be allocated to applicants in the OBC-NCL-PwD preparatory rank list in case no more applicants in the OBC-NCL-PwD rank list have opted for it.
  • The SC-PwD seats that remain unfilled will be allocated to applicants in the SC-PwD preparatory rank list in case no more applicants in the SC-PwD rank list have opted for it.
  • Unfilled ST-PwD seats will be allocated in ST-PwD preparatory rank list.
  • SC seats remaining vacant will be allocated to applicants in the SC preparatory rank list.
  • The remaining unfilled ST seats will be allocated to applicants in the ST preparatory rank list in case no more applicants in the ST rank list have opted for it.
  • Remaining OBC category seats will be de-reserved and considered as OPEN category seats in every round of seat allocation.
  • There will be no de-reservation for SC/ST category seats.

JoSAA Cut-off 2022 – Opening & Closing Rank:

JoSAA Counselling 2022: Tie Breaker

If two or more students from the same category have the same rank and the number of seats is filled, then there will be a provision for seats being supernumerary. Those students will be given admission by extending the number of seats for that particular rank.

JoSAA 2022 Important Points:

  • Candidates must register on the official web portal to participate in the JoSAA counselling.
  • The choices must be filled in by the candidates. They won’t be qualified for any seat allocation if they fail to do so.
  • Double-check your choices before locking them because you won’t be able to change them beyond that point.
  • Candidates need to report again at the reporting centers if they get another seat during subsequent seat allotment and they want to take the later one instead.
  • Any candidate who wants to switch from an NIT to an IIT or vice versa must report to the new institution. Failing to do so will result in admission cancellation.

CSAB Counselling:

  • Upon completion of JoSAA counselling, if any vacant seats are remaining, then CSAB conducts some special rounds to fill up the vacant seats for NITs, IIITs and various other colleges.
  • You can switch to CSAB if you didn’t get any seats from JoSAA.
  • CSAB does not conduct the counselling process for admission into IITs.
  • Even if you already have a seat, you can still apply for the CSAB special rounds because there’s a chance you’ll get a better branch.

How to Withdraw a Seat in JoSAA Counselling 2022?

Students are allowed to withdraw their accepted seats in JoSAA Counselling 2022. To withdraw a seat follow the given steps:

  • Log in to the JoSAA portal and submit a request for withdrawal by submitting a duly signed declaration form.
  • Then enter your bank account information and upload a jpg file of a canceled check.
  • Download the withdrawal request letter.
  • Appear at the reporting center with the withdrawal request letter duly signed by you and your parents.

NOTE: Candidates who choose the withdrawal option CAN NOT participate in subsequent JoSAA counselling rounds. They will receive a refund after the deduction of the processing fees of Rs 1500.
