The information bulletin bears exam and admission criteria for Foreign Nationals, OCI and PIO Candidates as well, which we’ll discuss here.
Foreign national candidates can get admission into IITs by appearing for JEE Advanced 2023 exam. JEE Advanced is an entrance exam for aspirants seeking admission into various undergraduate programmes across 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) across the country. Foreign national candidates, including OCI/PIO card holders, can directly appear for JEE Advanced exam provided that they fulfil the eligibility criteria. It means they are not required to appear and qualify JEE Main first to take JEE Advanced examination.
All foreign national candidates will be considered in addition to, and not as a part of, the 2,50,000 Indian national candidates who qualify for appearing in JEE (Advanced) 2023.
All the seats allotted to foreign national candidates will be supernumerary, with a cap of 10% of the total number of seats in every course.
These candidates are not eligible for reserved seats meant for GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, and PwD categories/sub-categories, as mentioned in the Information Brochure of JEE (Advanced) 2023.
There are no separate supernumerary seats or sub-category for females in the foreign national supernumerary seats.
OCI/ PIO cardholders are considered OCI and PIO candidates.
As per the decision dated February 03, 2023, passed by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in Writ Petition (Civil) 891 / 2021, the OCI/PIO candidates shall be considered Indian nationals.
OCI/PIO candidates who have studied or are studying in India/abroad at 10+2 level or equivalent at the time of registering for JEE (Advanced) 2023 are NOT required to write JEE (Main) 2023 and may register for JEE (Advanced) 2023 directly subject to fulfilment of other eligibility criteria mentioned below.
All OCI/PIO candidates will be considered in addition to, and not as a part of the 2,50,000 Indian national candidates who qualify for appearing in JEE (Advanced) 2023.
This is a one-time measure applicable only for the year 2023. That means that OCI/ PIO candidates are exempted from JEE Main 2023 and can appear directly in JEE Advanced 2023 only this year, i.e. 2023. From next year onwards, this policy will be revised.
For seat allocation, the OCI/PIO candidates shall be considered for the OPEN category seats ONLY. The OCI/PIO candidates shall be included in the Common Rank List and/or CRL-PwD list as also for the Female Supernumerary seats, as applicable, subject to qualifying for the JEE (Advanced) 2023.
